Give to others this christmas

After reading an article in this months Glamour magazine in their 'Do' area, it inspired me to write a post about different ways to give to others during this cold months and with christmas on the way it would be great.

1. Age UK
What they do:
Help prevent thousands of elderly deaths each winter, providing heaters, electric blankets and clothes.

What you can do:
Join in their 'Donate A Coat' appeal by taking your pre-loved jackets, coats and sweaters to an Age UK shop to be resold to raise funds. Barbour, Topshop, H&M, New Look and Jaeger are also donating new coats.

Where to find them;

2. Crisis At Christmas
What they do:
Provide centres across London between December 23-30 that offer companionship, hot meals and warmth for homeless people.

What you can do:
Sign up to be one of the 8,000 volunteers needed to run the centres, two shifts is all you have to do. They need anyone from people who can help out anyway to people with specific skills such as dentists, hairdressers and performers.

Where to find them:

3. Great Ormond Street Hospital - Great Big Christmas Stocking Appeal

What they do:
Give life-saving treatment to more than 220,000 children each year.

What you can do:
Write a message for the hospital children who will be in hospital over the holidays. You can go online and pick your stocking design, write your message then make a donation.

Where to find them:

4. Samaritans Christmas Raffle - This is one I will be doing.

What they do:
Run a 24-hour phone line for people who are lonely or feeling suicidal. At christmas they receive a phone call every 6 seconds.

What you can do:
Buy tickets for their christmas raffle, which has 8 cash prizes from £50 to £5,000 up for grabs. Enter by December 2nd.

Where to find them:

5. Save The Children - Christmas Jumper Day

What they do:
Improve lives of children in the poorest countries.

What you can do:
1) Wear your christmas jumper to work on December 13th and donate £1.
2) Buy one of John Lewis's festive collection - £25 goes to charity.
or 3) Bid for a designer jumper on their site.

Where to find them:

6. Refuge Christmas Gift Appeal

What they do:
Offer support and emergency accommodation for women suffering from domestic abuse.

What you can do:
Buy a present for the women and children staying at a refuge this christmas. Go to www.Johnlewisgiftlist.com and enter the code 564013, then choose your gift. They start from as little as £5. The list closes on December 18th.

Where to find them:
www.refuge.org.uk

I hope you are all able to help others this christmas, even if it's just entering in the Raffle for £1 like I am. As Tesco says every little helps.
